Goals and Objectives
Course Goal: By the end of the course, participants will be able to effectively observe learning environments, craft compassionate feedback, and engage teachers in a learning-centered dialogue that explores and promotes student learning as well as teacher learning.

Course Goal: By the end of the course, participants will be able to effectively observe learning environments, craft compassionate feedback, and engage teachers in a learning-centered dialogue that explores and promotes student learning as well as teacher learning.
Objectives:
1. By the end of the course, participants will be able to identify, describe and analyze the difference between teacher training and teacher development. This includes but is not limited to being able to:
- recognize and distinguish the four concepts of the Four Knowings framework.
- explain the difference between teacher training and development in relation to Moran’s framework.
- reflect on their previous experiences in regards to teacher training and development while discussing the pre course task assignment.
2. By the end of the course, participants will be able to effectively use compassionate communication as a tool for observation, feedback and conflict resolution. This includes but is not limited to being able to:
- classify and explain what are feelings and needs in this paradigm.
- describe the difference between empathy, empathy-blockers and judgment.
- give and receive spoken and written empathy for oneself and for others.
- analyze the difference between intention and impact.
3. By the end of the course, participants will be able to effectively use ECRIF as a planning, observation and feedback tool.This includes but is not limited to being able to:
- identify and define the five stages of ECRIF.
- design and implement an ECRIF speaking lesson.
- use language from the ECRIF framework to describe what they see while observing.
- offer feedback by using ECRIF as a way to describe learning.
4. By the end of the course, participants will be able to reflect on their experiences using the Experiential Learning Cycle and use it as a tool for observation and feedback. This includes but is not limited to being able to:
- label and explain the four stages of the ELC.
- use ELC language to describe what is taking place during their observations.
- use ELC language to offer insights in feedback sessions.
5. By the end of the course, participants will be able to identify, create and implement effective teaching practices that engage and promote learning. This includes but is not limited to being able to:
- identify effective and non-effective teaching practices in the classroom.
- analyze teaching practices in terms of cognitive, compassion and safety factors.
