Come to rural Costa Rica to Learn to Teach English!

World Learnings' SIT TESOL Certificate course is an intensive 160-hour ESL/EFL teacher training course which provides participants with the skills and confidenceneeded to succeed in the language classroom. The SIT Certificate is recognized worldwide, and is offered at centers in Asia, Australia, North and South America and Europe.

The SIT Graduate Institute at World Learning
The School for International Training (SIT) is a graduate school located in Vermont, USA. It has been a leader in the field of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) for more than 30 years. It is recognized worldwide for the excellence of its teacher training programs.

Why study with us?
Combining the local knowledge of Centro Espiral Mana and the international expertise of SIT, the SIT TESOL Course in Costa Rica offers unique advantages:
  •  Worldwide recognition. Graduates from the SIT Certificate Course are now teaching English throughout the world.
  •  Skilled and Experienced Trainers.  All trainers have been licensed by SIT and have  degrees in the field and a wealth of practical experience on at least 2 continents.
  •  Experiential learning and reflective practice in a supportive environment. Participants learn to make  sense of their own experiences. This ensures that your growth as a teacher will  continue long after the course has finished.
  • Compassionate Communication. All courses include classes on compassionate communication and we intentionally practice empathy and compassion on both personal and professional levels.
  •  Fewer participants, more trainers. With a ratio of 1 trainer to 6 participants  you'll receive plenty of personal attention.
  • Contribution to our local community. The English language students on the course come from the local community and do not have much access to learning English.
  •  Job counseling.  We offer job counseling throughout and after the course and can also provide information about local and international teaching opportunities

Who should take the course?

The course is suitable for people interested in developing as an EFL/ESL teacher.

  •  Novice teachers: The course offers solid, practical, teaching techniques to  ensure you enter the classroom with confidence.
  •  Experienced teachers: Through a process of reflection, experienced teachers are able to explore and critique their teaching, deepen their practice and principles, and implement positive changes in a supportive environment. They will also be able to explore a wide range of teaching and classroom management techniques and workshop design.
  • Non-native speakers. It's not only native speakers who can teach English. The course is open to anyone who can function fully in an English-speaking environment.

Why take a TEFL/TESL course in rural Costa Rica?

  •  Dedicated, passionate, joyful and skilled trainers
  •  A “real” Costa Rican experience in a small town off the beaten “tourist”  track. Wonderful Costa Rican food and people!
  •  Simple living in a quiet place designed for your learning
  •  Great “nature” breaks (watch sloths, tucans and other wildlife)
  •  Serve as you learn: most of your practice teaching students do not have access to other English courses and do not pay to take your classes.
  •  Access to Costa Rican and international job contacts and a network of supportive peers
  • Access to our extended community of participants from more than 17 countries who have taken our courses.
All courses begin on Sunday evening and finish on Friday evening.
